This pretty cake was kept quite simple, just decorated with roses and sprinkled with icing sugar.  However, when I finished working on it and adding the ribbons, I thought it looked quite like a lady’s hat!  It’s a very versatile design – if you had different colour flowers, it could be for a birthday or any celebration really.  It is based on a design from “Carol Deacon’s Little Book of Easy Christmas Cakes.”

Cake is 8″ fruit cake, covered in marzipan and sugarpaste and decorated with sugarpaste roses.
