1st birthday farm-theme cake
This cake was ordered for baby Patrick for his first birthday by his mum Janet, from Dunshaughlin. Patrick is very much a little man, and loves tractors and farm animals. As he was having quite a large 1st birthday party, they decided to go with a 2-tier cake. I designed the bottom tier to look like a field with a fence around it, and the top tier looks like a bale of hay, with a tractor on top. This cake has a lot of detail, including a little model of their Bernese mountain dog, Rufus, beside the tractor, and a little model of Patrick in his dungarees too. There are loads of little handmade sheep, pigs, cows and chickens around the cake.
The cake itself is a 6″ chocolate sponge, filled with chocolate buttercream, on top of an 8″ vanilla sponge filled with vanilla buttercream. They are both covered with a thin layer of buttercream and then with sugarpaste. All the little handmade decorations are completely edible. Below is a closeup photo of little Patrick surrounded by sheep!

Wow and Yummie!
This is spectacular cake.
Well done all.
I expect that the Mum was thrilled with it even if Patrick was way too young to appreciate.
That said, in years to come Patrick will see the pictures and end “enjoy” / appreciate it all the more.

Hi there,
‘Mum’ here!
I thanked Geraldine already (very much!) but I really wanted to say that her cakes are absolutely delicious and look amazing, everyone commented on it and everyone loved it, it was the centrepiece of the entire party and was perfect with our ‘farm’ themed 1st birthday party. Geraldine took care to make sure she knew what kind of cake we wanted, what kind of boy Patrick was, used photos to make sure ‘cake’ PAtrick was like ‘real’ Patrick, had loads of suggestions and advice, and spent Goodness knows how much time making it! And Patrick thought it was yummy too! We’ll definitely be ordering from her again!!!

Thanks so much for the kind words, Janet! It was a great cake to make, and I loved making all the cute little animals. I’m delighted you were so happy with it – and look forward to working on your next one
