Congenital Heart Defects fundraiser cake

Aisling from Leixlip asked me to make a very special cake for her son, Aaron.  He didn’t get to celebrate his 10th birthday, as he suffers from congenital heart defects and was in hospital recovering from his third open-heart surgery.  Aisling organised a fundraiser / birthday party for Aaron, and wanted a cake reflecting both themes.  I made a heart-shaped sponge cake which I covered in red sugarpaste, and made bandages and a needle and thread from modelling paste.  The chocolate biscuit cake bottom tier was decorated in a Liverpool football club theme, as Aaron is Liverpool mad!!  I made a little football jersey with his name on it, and a Liverpool scarf.  I added a few little footballs around the sides of the cake.

Aaron absolutely loved the cake, and they raised €500 for his heart ward in Crumlin Children’s Hospital – so it was all a huge success :)

Aisling also ordered some cupcakes to bring in to the lovely nurses who had taken care of Aaron in the hospital.  Photo of some of the cupcakes below -
