Amanda from Dun Laoghaire ordered this cake for her dad Pascal’s 80th birthday.  He always owned VW Campervans, and the whole family used to head off on holidays in them.  Pascal owns a garage but almost every time they went on holidays the campervan would break down

I carved the campervan from lemon sponge.  Although it looks like a pretty simple shape, it actually took quite a few hours to make.  I spent a long time poring over blueprints and photos of VW Campervans to make sure I got it just right!  I made the little figure of Pascal kneeling down at the back of the van from modelling paste.  Amanda had originally sent me a picture of a similar cake made by Donna Makes Cakes in the UK, who very kindly allowed me to copy her design.
