I’ve made a couple of versions of this cake before, and it’s always fun to do!  I love the baby giraffe looking up at its mother who is peeking out over the leaves.  Orla ordered this cake for her son Senan’s 2nd birthday.  He loves animals, and adores white owls… so I handmade giraffes, a white owl, a monkey and a sleeping lion for the top of the cake.  I put elephants, crocodiles and rhinos around the sides of the cake. 

The cake itself was a 10-inch lemon sponge with lemon buttercream filling, covered in sugarpaste.

I got this lovely email from Orla the day after the party, along with some photos, which I have put up on my facebook page - “Thank you so so much for you wonderful cake, it was a complete hit! Senan was squealing with excitement! It really looked amazing & with much reluctancy we did cut it & it tasted fantastic too, so light & fluffy, even the icing was polished off which is usually left behind!
